Dog Attack Puts Spotlight On Pit Bulls

www.ctvvancouverisland.ca http VICTORIA — Victoria Animal Control is investigating a weekend dog attack in Bernard Park in Victoria. A woman was walking with her guide dog when she says she was attacked by a pit bull. Victoria Animal Control says she suffered a significant bite to her forearm but will recover. The attack is putting increased attention on a breed that is familiar with the spotlight, usually for the wrong reasons. Despite a handful of reported pit bull attacks in the past decade, Victoria Animal Control says since 2004 only 12 per cent of all dogs designated as dangerous by the city are pit bulls. In addition, Ian Fraser with Victoria Animal Control, says dog attacks are largely under reported. He says pit bull incidents, however, are often reported because of the breed. Others say there is an unfortunate stigma attached to pit bulls that is unwarranted. Follow Joe Perkins on Twitter: www.twitter.com
