The plane crashed near Crestwood Drive and Helene Avenue, close to Brookhaven Calabro Airport in Shirley. At least one person was believed to have been killed in the crash, according to reports from the scene. Multiple people were taken to Stony Brook Hospital with severe burns, police said. It was unclear whether the injured were on the ground or aboard the plane at the time of the crash.
